About

Robert Powers was born in 1976 and raised in Catskill New York. With a father as a guitarist, he was introduced to blues music at a young age. During his youth, he worked as a rock/blues guitarist. After high school, he studied trumpet performance at Schenectady County Community College where he had the pleasure of working with great players and teachers such as Bill Meckley, Donald Boucher, and Nat Phipps. During his time in Schenectady, Robert had the time to observe performances by Nick Brignola, Claudio Roditti, Scott Henderson, and Brian Lynch all of which, had profound impact on his musical performance out look. After that he attended College at Saint Rose where he studied music education, worked as a freelance jazz musician, and worked professionally with the Joey Thomas Big Band. During this time he also had the great honor of studying with trumpet master Brian Lynch in New York City. Robert recieved a full scholarship jazz performance degree at Arizona State University.Robert currently instructs music at The new School for the Arts and Phoenix college.
